NHS Education for ScotlandThe main aim of NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is to improve the quality of patient care by designing, commissioning and quality assuring education and training for the NHS workforce.
This national organisation was set up as a special health board on 1st April 2002 and from its initial remit of coordinating and monitoring healthcare education for nurses, dentists, doctors, midwives, allied health professionals, psychologists and pharmacists, it has now been extended to include audiologists, healthcare chaplains and biomedical scientists. The NES accommodation within the Centre for Health Science consists of offices and meeting rooms to support the activities of the organisation. Recently, NES has started to develop a Rural Health Education Alliance (RHEAL), an innovative organisation which will explore new methods of bringing high quality education to the rural healthcare workforce.
