Stirling Lectures - The Economics of the Wild
25 March 2010
Starts: 18:00
Ends: 19:00

Professor Nick Hanley
Auditorium, CfHS

This lecture investigates how economic analysis can help us understand the choices, trade-offs and opportunities which face society in designating and protecting “wilderness areas”. Using environmental cost-benefit analysis, it examines the gains and losses to Scotland plc from wilderness protection, and explains how these benefits and costs might be distributed between urban and rural people. It also analyses economic incentives which could be used to improve the protection of wilderness qualities, without preventing local economic development opportunities. Followed by open discussion and questions.
