UHI Millennium Institute

UHI is a partnership of colleges, learning and research centres, working together to provide university-level education to people throughout the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and beyond.  UHI achieved taught degree awarding powers in 2008 and is now looking to achieve university title.  The newest faculty at UHI is the Health Faculty.  The faculty consists of a number of components. These include:

1) A few years ago UHI successfully negotiated a 50% academic share of the Centre for Rural Health with Aberdeen University. This research institute was relocated to Phase 2 of the Centre for Health Science in the summer of 2008. 2) The Department of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Science moved into phase 3 of the building.  The team presents a great opportunity for research into the causes and consequences of diabetes in the Highlands.  The team has recently expanded to include expertise in Geneics and Immunology.  To view more information on the Department of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Science please click here. 

3) The Highland Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is housed on the ground floor within the Highland Diabetes Institute; phase 3 of the Centre for Health Science building.  This facility is operated by UHI and NHS Highland.  The CRF is designed and managed to allow researchers to undertake clinical trials and other research studies in a state of the art facility and also has a bedded unit with the capacity for overnight studies.  To view more information on the CRF please click here 

4) In addition to these research interests UHI is involved in a number of teaching and training initiatives including the new Dental Therapy degree course that commenced in September 2008 which is taught out of Inverness Dental Centre in the Centre for Health Science and Masters courses in infection control and in decontamination.
