Centre Evolution

The Centre for Health Science is both a building and an institution.

The building is owned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and built on land purchased from NHS Highland.

The institution consists of a group of stakeholders who have come together under one roof because of the common interest of improving the quality of healthcare in the Highlands through teaching, training and research.

The history of the project and the resulting vision for the Centre is an interesting story of the development of both the building and the collaboration between the key stakeholders, which is fundamental to its success.

Phase 1 of the Centre for Health Science opened in October 2006. The construction of Phase 2 was completed in the summer of 2008 and Phase 3 was completed in November 2008.

There is also an ambitious Public Art programme associated with the Centre. Many of the public spaces in the building have been enhanced with contemporary art with works by Scottish artists  permanently installed throughout.
