Providing NHS primary dental care in the Highlands and Islands has traditionally been difficult because of poor dental accommodation and difficulties in recruitment of dental staff. Now it is planned to set up the Access Dental unit in phase 2 of the Centre for Health Science alongside the Dental Institute providing dental education. Eight NHS dental chairs will be provided in the Access Dental unit and a state of the art decontamination unit will further enhance the quality of service to patients.
